THE ARCHANGEL PROJECT

He was born John Paul Arneaux, Aug 14^th,n 1927, in the United States. Here in France he was called Jean Pierre Lemaire, an identity, which he had assumed, when he became part of the Archangel Object. Actually one would say that he was the Archangel Project.

He was fifteen, slightly less than average height for his age, blue eyes, and light brown curly hair.

His two companions had to stop every few minutes to release the tourniquet on his shattered leg. He was worried that his bloody pants leg would be too apparent, when he made it to the village.

He was leaning on their shoulders while they worked their way down the mountain towards the village of Pe''tran.

Unknown to the Germans, this sleepy little town, not too far from Limoge in Aquitaine, was the center of operations for the Maquis, or as the Spanish called them "The Maquisard."

This was not as large a group as the Ain, Glieres, or the Vercors, but a smaller group devoted more to the communications between groups, but when the need arose, other actions. Being only fifty miles from the coast allowed them easier access to being supplied by air or by boat.

While visiting Fritz, a German Obers-charfuher (Sergeant), at the Fortress, he had overheard Fritz being ordered to assemble a squad and send them up to Sizon Pass, and wait in ambush.

A reconnaissance plane had spotted a group of suspected Maquis, heading in that direction. He had hurried to intercept them before the Germans got there. He had been too late. One had been killed; the other nine had been captured. One of the nine, the leader, had been wounded.

Two in the group were downed British airmen, trying to make it to Spain.

The Germans were making them dig their own graves. Only the leader, who was wounded, was to be brought down for interrogation.
