Mel ran to the barn, hitched up the team and headed for the field, where he found the prints. When they arrived they turned the horses into the field and began scouring the grounds for any hint of the kids. As they went, they could see a trail in the grass that was definitely made by horse and buggy. As they followed it, Mel could feel a surge of adrenalin rush through him. He was sure they were getting close. The little wooded clearing where the kids camped out two days before came into view. So did the buggy that was hooked to Jim and Babe. The closer they got, the more evident it became that something was drastically wrong. Mel didn’t even give his team time to stop before he was out of the buggy and running for his favorite horses, with Harry on his heels. There was no way that he was prepared for what he was about to see.

About the Author
Listening to countless hours of her grandmother reliving her childhood days in Crystal Station, in the early 1900’s brought along with it an overwhelming sense of curiosity for the author to relive those days of long ago. After her grandmother’s death in 1997, she felt a need to fill the void that was left, and to preserve those memories. This being the inspiration for The Bittersweet Journey. Being somewhat of a history buff, she spent many hours researching the family history and finding out as much information as she could on the little town that is no longer in existence.
