Beatrice had woken early this morning she had been woken by the singing of the birds and the sun shining through her bedroom window. She jumped out of bed and pulled back the curtains to reveal a beautiful bright morning. “It’s a pity that I have to go to work today” she thought to herself, “but it is Thursday and I have the weekend to look forward too, thank goodness” she told herself rather pleasingly.
She made her way downstairs to the kitchen to put the kettle on for her first cup of coffee of the day, which she could not do without. She then placed two pieces of bread into the toaster and skipped off to the front door to see if the postman had delivered her any mail this morning. There was nothing of any importance, just a couple of bills of which she had opened and promptly put to one side. She really did not want to think about paying any bills today. Beatrice sat at her breakfast bar drinking her black coffee and eating her toast, which she had spread with her favourite marmalade. She looked around dreamily and began thinking to herself. “I wish that I had someone special to share my life with, I am twenty seven and still living on my own, it would be nice to have someone to share my interests with, always have someone around to talk too and have”. She was still deep in thought when she suddenly heard an announcement on the radio that it was now 7.30 a.m. Beatrice jumped off her stool, cleared away her breakfast plate and cup and decided, it was time for her to go into the bathroom and get ready for work otherwise she would be late.
After spending at least three quarters of an hour in the bathroom, showering and putting on her makeup, she was finally ready to get dressed. She had chosen a short sleeve navy and white button through dress with matching navy court shoes to wear for work today. She had put her long fair hair up into a French pleat so that she would feel cooler as she had heard on the radio that it was going to be another hot day. At last she was ready, she checked that her coffee pot was turned off, she grabbed for her car and front door keys and her bag, then she closed the front door behind her.
As Beatrice walked to her car she looked at her wrist watch and it was now 8.40 a.m. and she knew that it would take her at least fifteen minutes to drive to work as she lived just outside of the town. She got into her car and switched on the ignition and as usual the car started first time without any problem. It was a metallic blue Ford Fiesta Ghia that she drove, she liked it because it was very economical to run and anyway she could not afford anything bigger and besides there was only herself to think about.
The journey to work took Beatrice through a couple of country lanes, which she enjoyed driving through first thing in the morning, as it was so quiet and peaceful. But before too long she found herself at the traffic lights where she turned left to where her offices were situated. This morning the lights were red and she had stopped and pulled right up beside her was this black BMW Convertible with it’s roof down and it appeared to be going straight on, she thought it looked like a BMW three series, but because she did not have much knowledge of cars she wasn’t sure, she only knew that she liked them and thought that it might be quite nice too own one. As she looked across at the car she couldn’t help noticing this young dark haired man dressed in a pale blue shirt sitting behind the driver’s wheel. “Mm, he’s good looking, I wonder where he’s going” Beatrice thought to herself and at that very moment he turned around and saw her looking at him and he gave her a smile and a little nod of his head. Beatrice’s face coloured up a little as she felt so embarrassed that he had caught her looking at him, but she did manage to return his smile and then all of a sudden he was gone and she had turned left, and all too quickly she had arrived at her place of work.
She parked her car and turned off the engine, but she sat there for another minute or two before she got out, her thoughts were with the man in the BMW. She could not help thinking what a lovely smile he’d had and she wondered if she would see him again.
