I N T R O D U C T I O N

This book is a real story about an attempt that has been a long and difficult struggle to improve one important aspect of life in the human society. What is quite particular and interesting is that everything is told and accurately expressed not by human beings but by bicycles. In this story, the bicycles can think, and think well, they talk among themselves, have a sharp sense of observation and they are watching carefully the human beings and the many aspects of their society with the objectivity and impartiality that only an observer from outside of the human species can have.

Being close to the reality of the everyday life of the human beings as a mean of transportation but being not responsible for the human beings actions and the respective consequences and, as bicycles, not accountable for their opinions to any human authority, the bicycles do not have any fear or concern in expressing their opinions freely without restrictions, with total openness, sincerity and objectivity, regardless of the position of the person they are talking about or the subject or the situation they are presenting or discussing. The fears and reservations the human beings have in this regard, are totally strange to them.

The initial subject of discussion at the first bicycle reunion is the true story about the development and promotion of an original, visionary and sustainable concept for the radical improvement of urban transportation by implementing a system of expressways exclusively for bicycles, elevated above the street level, covered and without uphill slopes, which will create excellent conditions of safety and convenience for the mass use of bicycles. This will tremendously reduce the dependency on cars, the traffic congestion, the air pollution, the number of traffic accidents, the waste of precious time and it will increase the general level of health at the same time with significant economic advantages.

All the promotional actions by the engineer, author of the concept, as meetings with various officials, authorities and personalities, presentations at International Conferences and Seminars, articles in major newspapers and other publications in several countries, interviews by major Radio and TV networks, received letters of support as well as setbacks and negative attitudes at some contacted organizations, are real and truthfully related.

Together with relating the complete story of the promotion of the proposed concept, from the beginning when the idea was born, the bicycles talked about many subjects,  giving  their own  objective interpretation  and explanation of many aspects of life in the human society. The range of the subjects discussed at the three bicycles reunions is very wide and includes various aspects of social organization, politics, arts, sports, religion, and of course, urban transportation and the potential role of bicycles, especially after the implementation of the concept of the Bicycle Expressway System.

The disputes among bicycles about their differences in opinions are solved peacefully, politely and thoroughfully, as should always be among humans. No one unclear item is left behind until it is completely clarified. The questions asked by junior bicycles with little life experience are genuine even if sometimes amusing, and the answers by the bicycles with more life experience are well documented, clear and complete. Being at all times very close to the humans and being very observant, the bicycles achieved a perfectly clear understanding of the problems existing in the human society and figured out the required solutions in a clear and feasible way, in which unfortunately, the human beings have proved themselves unable to understand and to act.

The sharp but realistic criticism based on pure logic and rational thinking and not on prejudices of any kind, would be very useful for the human beings for improving their own life in a major way, if they only could be aware of the opinions expressed by the bicycles and if they were able to translate them into their human society life.
