Stacy entered the bedroom and put her hands on the hips of her tailored black suit and focused a wary gaze on Adam. “What are you doing in my bed?”
“Waiting for you.”
Stacy walked to the bed, bent over and kissed the bandage on Adam’s cheek. “You poor dear,” she said, “have you been waiting long?”
Adam clasped his hands behind his head. “Is it still Tuesday?”
“I called you as soon as I could. At least I called. That’s more than you do when you’re going to be late.”
Adam ran the back of his fingers down his cheek. “It’s okay. I don’t mind shaving again.”
Stacy put her briefcase down and inspected the sides of her long auburn hair in the dresser mirror. She shined her teal green eyes with a few rapid blinks and spoke to Adam’s reflection in the mirror. “What did you do while you were waiting? Did you look around my new place? Isn’t it wonderful?”
“Watched a BBC melodrama on TV.”
Stacy approached the bed.” Really, what was the name of it?”
“Couldn’t tell I tuned in at the middle of it. It was one of those very British stories with a stuffy woman wearing an absurd hat and a prissy young chap named Nigel who’s only talent appeared to be his ability to see himself to the door.” Adam was pleased with his narration of the imagined program.
“Sounds fascinating.”
“Not really,” Adam said, affecting an English accent. “After the lady of the house took her hat off and complained about Nigel’s abominable behavior in Indja, I used the remote to exit the bloody thing before Nigel could accompany himself to the door.”
“You told me the BBC produced some of the best writing on TV.”
“Quite,” he said continuing his

“You misjudge Nigel’s ability to irritate my urinary tract.” Adam tapped the bandage on his cheek. “You should understand that, you get irritated rather easily too.”
