“Maya! What’s going on? Can you hear me?” Jonathan said on the other end, trying to understand what was happening.
The front door opened. Three figures, dressed totally in black, including their masks, walked in. Maya’s eyes widen when she saw each of them carrying handguns. The last one to enter walked over to the security panel and began pushing buttons. Maya crept back to her bedroom and quietly shut the door. “Jonathan…there are people in my house…they have guns…and they turned off my security system.” Maya was able to force out those words despite her fear.
“Maya, listen to me.” Jonathan said in his calm tone. “Hide yourself…I’ll be right there.” He heard no response. “Maya? Damn!” Jonathan yelled as he tossed his phone into the passenger sheet. He stepped on the gas and drove as fast as he could. “Maya, hold on.” he said to himself.
Maya looked around her bedroom hopelessly for a place to hide. Her eyes shot at every angle of the room eventually focusing to underneath her bed. Maya managed to squeeze in between the floor and the bed and then just stared at her bedroom door, listening to the sound of heavy footsteps approaching the top of the stairs. She held her breath.
