About the Book

Moussa Cissé has written this book in order for his experience with the Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) not to be lost. He often says: “When you fail don’t lose the lesson the failure brought to you”.  This book needs to serve as guide to Moussa’s African Brothers who live in the States, and to give them a chance to benefit from the huge opportunities that are offered in the philanthropy sector and the immense American expertise that exist in the matter of non-profit organizations management.

“During my career as a journalist, the management of the ‘International African Community Council’ drew me away from the pen.  But when suddenly the organization’s activities came to an end, there was only one thing left for me to do; draw a lesson from my misadventures (at last profitable) and share my experiences with the public at large with this book.”

This book is for the public – and the people who live here and overseas. The leaders of Non Governmental Organizations (and would-be leaders); the members of the Philanthropic Foundations, the authorities at the head of governmental administrative agencies, the law makers, the members of religious congregations, the people of your community, the board members of corporations and the academia, should all read this book…

About the Author

Moussa Cissé was born in Kerouné in Guinea, in West Africa.  During his long career as a journalist in that country, he was the author of the columns entitled “The Préfet to the President” in various weekly magazines and “The Lynx” in the “Independent” newspaper.  For him, his interest in the world of philanthropy is not just an extension of his passion for the quest for information; it is issued from his experience when he headed the International African Community Council and it is also the fruit of his long career as a journalist.  Moussa Cissé arrived in the States a few years ago and set out to organize a charitable organization in order to assist his fellow Africans to settle in the country. If he didn’t fully succeed at first, it was not for the lack of trying. A local journalist who interviewed Moussa in 2001 was quoted to say: “Moussa Cissé does not want other immigrants to experience the bewilderment that he faced when arrived three years ago”.  And from his experience came his sagacity and his ability to tell the world that ‘charity is not dead in the New World’.  Moussa Cissé often said: “Sharing one’s knowledge is getting rich.”

Moussa Cissé has a diploma in Fundraising Management from the Center of Philanthropy at the University of Indiana, and from the Indianapolis Neighborhood Leadership Academy. And he also owns a Real Estate License from the State of Indiana.  He is a member of, and sits on numerous Boards of Directors in many organizations across the United States.
