Through the Looking Glass

That night, as I lay in bed reading a book, I heard footsteps again coming from upstairs and could have sworn I heard singing.  I sat in bed intently listening.  It sounded incredibly like a little girl’s voice singing Mary Had a Little Lamb.  This was getting ridiculous.  I was simply letting my imagination run wild.  I decided I had to go confront the evil monster in the closet or in this case, the third floor bedroom.

Heading up the stairs with Missy in tow, I saw the bedroom door to the right slightly open and a light on.  Now, I was nervous.  I know I shut the door this morning and I also know I didn’t leave the light on.

I tentatively pushed the door open and looked into the room while Missy went barging through the door tail wagging as always and sniffing the room.  Everything looked fine. 

You are letting your imagination run wild, I thought to myself.  You didn’t get the door all the way closed this morning and the power must have flickered causing the light to come on.  I had discovered that most of the lamps in the house were touch lamps.  When the electricity flickers, they sometimes turn on.  I reached over to touch the lamp, but it didn’t go off. I looked through the shade and found that this lamp had a switch.  Ok, there goes that idea.  A switch lamp doesn’t go on or off with a power outage.  My heart started racing a bit, but I calmed it down, shut off the lamp and headed back downstairs.
