God Promises - God Delivers

The Death of Moses Moses was a patriarch of the people of Israel. He was a man of God who first resisted the leadership role God had for him, but, later accepted it and with much strength and dedication led his people from slavery to freedom. He pleaded with God for the forgiveness of his people. He seemed to do everything that god expected of him. Yet, God did not allow Moses to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Why? Because on one occasion Numbers 20:1-11), he failed to obey God, took credit away from God, and credited himself. This was the result. "But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not trust in me, to show my holiness before the eyes of the Israelites, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them' " (Numbers 20:12). Moses saw the Promised Land. "Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho, and the LORD showed him the whole land: Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the Negeb, and the Plain—that is, the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees—as far as Zoar. The LORD said to him, 'This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there' " (Deuteronomy 34:1-4). Moses did not enter the Promised Land. "Then Moses, the servant of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, at the LORD’s command" (Deuteronomy 34:5). Following the death of Moses, Joshua became the leader of the Israelites. "Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the Israelites obeyed him, doing as the LORD had commanded Moses" (Deuteronomy 34:9).
