About the Book

Set in 1930’s British Guiana and 1940’s Trinidad, Caribbean Passage tells the story of a young, Portuguese girl facing insurmountable challenges -- her father’s death, mother’s absence, poverty, malnutrition and deceit.  Fierce determination and an unrelenting spirit ultimately guide Christina towards the prospect of a new life.  Her deep-rooted belief that “there must be a better place than this to live” propels her to survive under any circumstances.

Set against mysterious and exotic locations during a compelling time in history, memorable characters will keep readers turning the pages of an original story that sheds light on a world very different from ours today.

A coming of age story, these pages make excellent reading for young and older adults alike.

About the Author

Maria A. Madison was born and raised in New York City.  She has been the editor of various work-related newsletters.  While her professional career has been in the field of Corporate Human Resources Systems, Maria has spent much of her life pursuing her interests of family heritage and the Caribbean – its music and history.  Caribbean Passage was written as a tribute to the world her mother left behind shortly after the completion of World War II.  Maria, always enthralled by the magical backdrop to the tales her folks told, decided to memorialize the images for family generations to come.  Maria resides lakeside in Ringwood, New Jersey with her partner, Bonnie, and faithful dog, Harley.
