PREFACE
“Your story will be what is needed to make my words believable.” These words, written in June of 1983, hit me like a bolt of lightning. Suddenly everything became clear.
I have tried to write my story several times but it always sounded so melodramatic that I could not go on. I guess I could never see that my story was all that important. To me it has always been the books that are important, not me. I am only the instrument that they came through. I am not a writer so I couldn’t think it was worth the effort it would take for me to write my story.
When these words - your story will make my words believable - came, it was like a bright light was turned on and suddenly I could see why my story really does have to be told. Now I can understand why many people as well as the writing have been urging me to tell it. Now I can agree that I have to do it. I have always tried to let people get to know me as a person before I told them about the automatic writing. By seeing that I am a normal person maybe they could accept that part of me and not think I was some kind of freak or psychopath. Those words made me realize I had to do the same thing for the people I don’t know that I do for those I do know.
I want to begin this by making excuses and apologizing for my lack of writing skill. This violates all rules of communication, I know, but it makes me feel better to say it. I am working very hard on this and I am trying to do the best I can to make this story as interesting and as clear as I possibly can. Please bear with me and try to put yourself in my place as I struggle along.
There are two objectives I have in writing this book. The first is honesty. Everything that is said is as truthful and honest as I can make it. The second is to show the words from the writing as they have been shown to me, after all, it is these words that make my story necessary.
The words that are in italics are direct quotations from the automatic writing. I did not imagine these words; I did not ask for them to be given; I had no control over what was said.
I feel strongly enough about the importance of the words that have been given to risk the possible harmful attitudes that might be shown toward me. Some of the words and messages that have come through the writing make me very uncomfortable. There is no way to prove anything that has been said. Many of the things it says about me I would rather omit but do I have the right to censor these words just because they make me uncomfortable and include only the ones that I agree with? It has to be all or none.
I have gone through at least five thousand pages of writing and picked out the parts that I felt were the most interesting and representative of what has been given. I will also relate what was going on in my life at the time.

After a few comments about the storm I asked if there was anything else that I needed to be aware of. This is the reply.
I have a message to give you to let your people know I am allowing you to write your own story. In fact it is only now as you have finished writing it that I am adding what I wish people to know.
There has not been any help from me as you tell the reactions you have had. All that is said is in your own words. What has been said has not always pleased me as I felt you were too strong as far as your problems were concerned. What has been given to you has not been meant to create problems, on the contrary, it has been to educate you and your fellow human beings in ways you do not now have.
All in all our relationship has been pleasing to me. Your ideas are good, yet it is still apparent you do not fully believe I will do all I say. We are in agreement your world has need of what has been said.
