About the Author

Dr. Chen graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University in 1964, and finished his Master of Science Degree in the same field at the University of Illinois in 1967. He then continued his study at Cornell University and obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1971. He had taught at Purdue University as an Assistant Professor since 1974 and then promoted to Associate Professor and was granted a tenure in 1979. He had also worked at NASA Lewis Research Center for two summers as a Visiting Professor. Dr. Chen spent a year of sabbatical leave at Argonne National Laboratory. He was granted two patents and given an IR-100 award in addition to numerous other awards. In 1983, by accident, he ventured into import business and continued for twenty years while teaching part time. In 2002, he sold his business and went back to teaching.
