These Ugly Walls
It’s a whole other world
A society of rage
Where people just as human as you
Are locked in a cage.
The tension is ever present,
Cascading down the dim lit halls.
And all you find is hopelessness
Behind these ugly walls.
It’s a carnival of violence
Hatred like a swamp.
Nobody feels like anybody
Just eternal living scum.
Doors that lock from the outside
And time sluggishly crawls.
There is nothing here but loneliness
Behind these ugly walls.
We have no reason for prayer
There is no God for us.
You can stand up on your pulpit
But you’ll never earn our trust.
Because you will never understand
The way the darkness calls
When you’re just an empty vessel
Behind these ugly walls.

Poetry is written about many different things that we come face-to-face with along the hazardous trail we tread in life. I invite you to explore what is love, hate, society and despair. And when you are finished this book maybe, just maybe, one of you will go for a long walk and dwell very openly on the idea that we are all grasping desperately for meaning, for substance. Tyler Holmes was born in Peace River, Alberta. A poet since grade school, Tyler enjoys composing music, playing guitar, and reading. This is his first book.
