About the Book

The Unforgiving Minute is the stuff life is made of. Court and Zach Berry were raised by their grandparents whose funeral home in Charleston, South Carolina uplifted people of African descent. When their grandmother, Eva, died, their grandfather, Daniel, made the two grandsons joint owners of the funeral home. Court was a master mortician, dedicated to the business, but promiscuous and uncaring toward others in his lifestyle as a young bachelor. Zach was a scholar and gentleman, guilty by association with his libertine brother. When Daniel Berry died in June of 1975, coming events revealed to them what it would take for them to become the men they were meant to be with the women meant to be theirs.

About the Author

Sophia White Tate was born and raised in Perry, Iowa, educated in the public schools there, and was a federal service employee for over twenty years. She retired in 1975 and is now a resident of Des Moines, Iowa. She likes to read, write and have fellowship with kindred spirits. The Unforgiving Minute is her first published novel. The story was inspired by the poet Rudyard Kipling’s poem, IF. The characters are fictitious. The material gleaned from a friend who was a native of Charleston, South Carolina and from guidebooks describing the historic city she has never visited. A vivid imagination and lots of spare time made writing the novel a pleasure.
