I'm Lavender

It was late in the afternoon and Mrs. Napps’ classroom was quiet now.  Everything was in its place waiting for Monday morning.

Suddenly, there was movement on the blackboard tray.  The little book I’m Lavender, Lavender for short, started to move around.  She was looking around the classroom and knew Mrs. Napps had left for the day.  She jumped to the floor so she could check out her new surroundings. 

She was cute.  A little purple and lavender plaid book filled with stories and lovely pictures painted with bright colors.  She was a tomboy, but was sweet and sensitive about everything.

“Come on guys.  What’s the problem?  You don’t need to be scared, no one’s here but us.  Don’t you fellows want to see your new classroom!” she spoke out to the other nine books who were still leaning against the blackboard.  She shouted to the little book called My Alphabet Book,  and then she called out to My Little Book of Numbers.  “Come on Alphabet.  Get down here.  You too, Numbers.”

The two little books, Alphabet and Numbers, looked around the classroom.  Then, they also jumped down to the floor and began to walk around.

Alphabet was a blue book with yellow letters that formed an arch around his cover.  He was very handsome and had a crush on The Phonics Book.

Numbers was a black book with big white digits scattered across his front.  He was bold and smart enough to handle most situations.  Alphabet and Numbers were Lavender’s closest friends.

Soon, all ten books were down on the floor roaming the classroom.  Lavender spotted a group of older books on a bottom shelf near the back.  She walked over and introduced herself.  “Hello, I’m Lavender.  I’m from the New England Book Factory.  What are your names?”

“Our names don’t really matter.  You guys are the new ones.  All of us are on our way out,” spoke one old book as he lay pouting covered in dust.

“Yeah, we are so old, we’re forgotten,” cried another.

“That’s right,” whimpered another one.  “We haven’t been read in years.  We are just waiting for someone to pick us up and drop us in the big black barrel, and who knows what will happen to us then.”
