About the Book

Captain Ray Golding enlisted in the Air Force at age 16 as this would guarantee entrance into the USAF flight program, and he wanted so badly to fly.

The war ended before he had flown even one hour. Through the GI bill he attained his private, instructor and commercial licenses. Some of the aircraft he flew were the Moony Mite, C-46, L-188, DC-6, DC-7, and C-130 Hercules.

Through this book, follow Captain Golding’s colorful career in the early times of aviation. There were no simulators, radios, navigational equipment, or maps as we have today.

With many years of hard work at a minimal salary, and personal sacrifices of time, effort and money to invest, you too can become and airline pilot.

About the Author

Captain Ray Golding recently moved to Mesa, Arizona after living years at the SKP RV Park in Coarsegold, California.  He resides at The Grand Court, an assisted living “Resort”.

He’s 78 years old and has been legally blind (macular degeneration) for eight years.  He attended the VA Blind Center in Palo Alto to learn touch-typing and computer operation.  Not proficient in either, he took several years to write this book.

He has five children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He plays card games, remembers old fishing and golf expeditions, and enjoys trips to the pool and Jacuzzi to rehabilitate muscles weakened from knee and shoulder surgery.

Captain Golding is proud of his flying career and Air Force service, and was determined to tell his story.
