Feng Shui And The Western Tradition

Tao is the natural universal law and it is eternal. The study of Feng Shui begins with understanding the presence of the Tao in nature and in humanity. The true learning of Feng Shui starts when we acknowledge our place in the universe. Feng Shui masters know that all things come from the Tao and return to the Tao, and that change, or transformation is that which sets in motion the coming and going of things.

Wu Chi and Ain Soph Aur

All existence came out of nothingness. The Taoists call this ultimate source Wu Chi, which conveys the meaning of “Nothingness.” The Qabalists called it Ain Soph Aur  — Limitless Light, which is at the beginning of a cycle of manifestation. In the beginning, there was nothing. There was no time, no space, no up nor down, no east nor west. There was neither good nor evil, neither life nor death. There was no sky and there was no earth.

From Wu Chi or Ain Soph Aur came the Primal Will, a state of pure being without any form. The Taoists call it Tai Chi and the Qabalists call it Kether, which is the Root of the Tree of Life.

The Beginning Of All Things

The Chinese expressed this potential of energy, Wu Chi, by drawing a perfect circle. As a symbol, it succeeds where words fail -- expressing at a stroke fullness and emptiness, endless motion and complete tranquility. The Chinese consider the circle to be a womb or an unfertilized egg, full of life, ready to give birth, able to give material expression to the intense vitality of growth.

The moment a sperm enters the egg, transformation occurs. A tiny dot appears in the circle and changes the energetic pattern. What was dormant is now fertilized. What was previously undifferentiated has now begun to acquire characteristics.
