About the Book

THE HEART HAS A HOMELY FACE is a book of introspective poetry composed on ordinary themes that come through a Taoist perspective.   Anderson’s poetry rests on a point of inner balance upon common experiences.   He brings forth the insights that most people can relate to concerning their connection with all things living.   Anderson asks   in his work, “What has my life as a poet meant but to tighten the string that ties us all together?”   As a philosophical Taoist Anderson   tries to weigh all of his subjects with an equal objectivity that evokes empathy and compassion from within one’s self, and connects with all humankind.

About the Author

James Victor Anderson is a native of Southwestern Oregon.   He was born August 24th, 1940 to the coastal towns of North Bend/Coos Bay, and grew up on the Coos Bay waterfront during the pinnacle of the lumber and fishing industries.   During the late fifties he served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corp with the XVIII Airborne, and with the Oregon National Guard’s 249th Artillery during his college years at Linfield College where he earned his BA in English/Literature and a Masters in English-Education. James served as a high school and college teacher in Oregon’s toughest logging region of Southern Douglas County, and was named five times to Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

James now lives in the relative quietness of Roseburg, Oregon with his very loving artist wife Donna Marie, who says she doesn’t understand poets but accomodates him , nevertheless.   In retirement James has previously written and published two books of poetry in the Taoist perspective, titled NOT UNLIKE A MADMAN IN CHEAP SANDALS, and DANCE WITHOUT A RACK OF BONES WITHIN. He has also served as a hospice worker volunteer for Roseburg’s Mercy Hospital.

James sold his old pickup truck that he had driven for seventeen years and now lives as a self supporting Taoist   bum.   Smile comes from inside.
