beat of the rhythm
echoes cascading from the sun
in perfect rings
‘round moons and stars
along their captive groove
breast of the rhythm
a single pulse
of our life and death
this universal heart without
we can’t even feel within
beast of the rhythm
speaks riddles in your mind
for your fellow man
to answer
from the captive groove
of his resident moon
question in my mind
time has lingered behind
a love that can’t be found
echo’s cry comes around
as winds flow over the sea
death’s darkness will forever be
thousands of years gone cold
heavy tears skies unfold
only time will answer
is there more life in her
that she left behind
this question in my mind

About the Book
“Close to the Light” is an expression of the life experiences with bi-polar disorder. The writings are a “dark” poetry that mirror the depressive and euphoric states of the disease. In doing so, it muses on the philosophy and meaning of life as the disease serves to intensify the host’s inherent talents and internal reflections.

About the Author
Ann Marie Greystone has been writing poetry since her teens. She has never taken a poetry class for the poems have more control of her than she them.
Her life has both tragedies and ecstasies as everyone’s does; however, she was born with bi-polar disorder and much of her writing is “dark” poetry. Her experiences with this disease are reflected in her poetry. She was not aware of the disorder until she was 33-years-old.
It is her hope that the writings bring light on mental disorders and to overcome it stigma with compassion.
