About the Book
At the close of our first
meeting, a very well dressed older lady came forward, weeping. She introduced herself in broken English as
Lida Alexander. Very carefully choosing
her words, she asked Anitoli if he still remembered her.
He said, “Yes Ms. Alexander.”
She asked, “Anitoli, did I have
you as a student in Russian literature in this room when you were here?”
“Yes, Ma’am, in this very room,”
was Anitoli’s reply.
“How long ago was that Anitoli?”
After thinking for a moment, “He
said I was 11 years old and now I am 40.
Twenty-nine years ago Ms. Alexander.” She was weeping more now,
her emotions had totally taken over her.
She said, “Anitoli do you
remember each time I stood before the class I told you there was no God?”
“Yes ma’am I remember,” Anitoli
said.
“I want to apologize to you for
today I met him.” Together we all
rejoiced, sharing tears of joy.
Privately we were told that under the Communist Regime, every teacher
was required to read a portion of the Communist Manifesto, which stated, “There
is no God.” Ms. Alexander was
heartbroken about her mistake yet very happy that day when she found the truth
in Christ Jesus, which set her free indeed.
