CRASH… I felt a sharp pain across my face and my body buckled. As I lay sprawled out on my living room floor, I felt warm blood trickle down my face as if it were the tears of my soul. I could hear him yelling at me, “Get up, Chase! Fight like a man!” And then I felt a swift kick to my back and then one to my face. I thought to myself, “My life or his death”.
It seemed like an eternity as I laid thinking. Lawrence yelled out at me, “I knew you were nothing but a fucking punk! Do you see what his punk ass got you into? I told you until death do us part didn’t I? Didn’t I?” Then he kicked me again. I looked over to my right and then to my left. I saw a piece of glass from the lamp he broke across my face on the floor. If I picked up the glass and, without making a sound, charged Lawrence, cutting and stabbing him in all his vital areas I could get away.
So many emotions flooded my mind. I hated him for all that he had done to me. I wanted him to hurt like he had hurt me. I wanted him to feel the pain he had inflicted upon me. About the Author
Damon R. Matthews was born and raised in Connecticut, along with his other siblings (currently residing in New York City). He attended the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he received a Bachelors of Arts in Elective Studies with a concentration in Business Management and an Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies. He went on to receive a double Masters in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Business Management from American Intercontinental University in Atlanta, GA. He also received Master Certifications in Project Management and Finance and Accounting Management from Villanova University. Damon is currently employed as a Banker for one of the world’s leading and largest investment banking firms located in Stamford, CT. He has worked various jobs, being a Credit Risk Administrator as well as a Marketing Consultant for two global companies. Throughout the numerous positions he has held, he stayed focused and determined to completing his educational goals all the while writing his novels as a hobby. Life for him “ain’t been no crystal stair” as once written by Langston Hughes, one of his favorite writers, but he was determined to overcome any obstacles set before him. Being only thirty-six years old, Damon says he still has a lot of living to do. He has truly lived more in his thirty six years than most people will ever live in a lifetime and the power and strength in his writing will tell the story. Even though Damon has achieved his educational goals, writing has always been his true passion. MY LIFE OR HIS DEATH is the first of four novels written by Damon to be published.
