...The Captain’s steel door flew open inwards and caught Ralph on his elbow that sent a numbing stinger up and down his left arm. Big, bad Bubba lowered his head and stepped into the small cabin. It seemed his presence shrunk the cabin space by half.
“Much noise. What is happening?” said the quiet giant. Tinubu, still on the floor pointed a shaky finger and yelled,
“Get them, kill them.”
Bubba stuck out a hand the size of a baseball glove and grabbed Ralph by the throat. Ralph’s right hand went to Bubba’s grip at his throat while trying to extract the gun in his waistband with his other hand. However, his feeble fingers of his stinger arm couldn’t hold the weapon, and the .38 went sailing to the floor somewhere. Bubba swung Ralph around while Alex maneuvered to attack Bubba from behind. A couple of punches to the kidneys got Bubba’s attention, but little else. He let go of Ralph who went down on one knee, and shook out his almost useless stinger arm. Bubba then turned his attention on to Alex. Alex ducked under a backhand punch, and sent one of his own punches to Bubba’s ribs. He flinched but was not fazed. Ralph, having gotten up also punched the big man smack on the jaw. Bubba went crashing into Alex. Marisa was also knocked to the deck among silverware, broken cups, and bottles of various spirits. Bubba straightened up and now grabbed Alex by the throat. Alex went weak from the sudden lack of oxygen. The blood vessels started pounding in his head. Ralph went for Bubba again, but stumbled after the Captain kicked his leg. The giant would not let go of Alex.
Marisa screamed, and still on the floor, frantically looked for a weapon. She quickly picked up a short pointed knife, crawled to Bubba, and did what she could. The knife entered the back of Bubba’s leg, and he let out a low, “awargh.”
Bubba released Alex who fell to the floor. Ralph regained his footing, and the full use of his arm again, hit Bubba two or three times causing him to fall near Alex. Before Bubba could get up, Ralph recovered the captain’s gun and fixed it one inch from Bubba’s eye. One false move and a bloody hole would be where Bubba’s eye used to live.
“I’ve had enough,” said Ralph who now was breathing heavy. “How about you friend?” Bubba the giant went silent and only nodded his head to affirm his capitulation. Ralph, keeping a quick eye on Bubba, went to help Alex who was also breathing with some difficulty. Alex helped Marisa up, while Ralph bent over to the big man, and said,
“Dammit Bubba, I wish you were on our team.” Bubba lay on his side propped up by his elbow. His free hand clamped over the back of his knee stemming the slight flow of blood.
“Tell ya what,” said Ralph, “I’m going to let you live if you’ll keep this turkey here quiet while we try to get out of this mess, okay?”
“Okay, boss man,” was all Bubba replied. Alex came up with a large cloth napkin and tied it around Bubba’s wounded knee.
