About the Book

There's A War On, was what grownups said to kids, all through WWII.  It was their excuse for a lack of sweets and for having to live like moles in the Blackout.  It was also Jane’s mother’s excuse for dumping Jane to live with the Eastons in 1940.  Unsure of her mother’s love and not knowing her dad ‘s whereabouts or even if he cared, Jane manages to survive an air raid and the war years, helped  by her allies Harry Easton and Sheena.  After victory is declared in 1945, Jane begins her quest to trace her dad.  She eventually finds him and although their meeting is tinged with sadness, Jane now knows that she was loved and that she can face her mother, and all that Peacetime will bring.

About the Author

Ann Carlisle has included some of her early English childhood memories and experiences in There's A War On.  In 1974 she moved with her family to the United States where she has given talks in elementary schools on the joys of writing, and has herself written many articles for New England newspapers on travel and other topics of her own choosing.  She now divides her time between New Hampshire, Florida and the UK.
