There wasn’t even a crackle of
static when all of the thousands of television broadcasts all over the world
were interrupted and replaced by an image of a small-thin, gray-skinned
creature with a large head and big black eyes. It was standing in front of some
very large exotic plants with colossal blooms of many vibrant colors. The
creature closed its eyes and bowed its head with its hands pressed flat to each
other before it. As it straightened and opened its eyes, it began to speak.
“Good morning, good afternoon and
good evening. This broadcast is being simultaneously sent over every radio
station, television channel, and every other form of broadcast media currently
being used by humans on Earth. You may call me, Ab-ar-da.”
The voice was soft and smooth,
yet light and clear, and easy to understand. It was neither high nor deep, but
somewhere in the middle. Ab-ar-da gracefully walked over to a rectangular green
table and sat down on a matching green chair that was too high for it. Its feet
dangled off the floor like those of a small child at the dinner table.
“Among my people, I am considered to be an
expert on Earth and its humans. I am honored to have been chosen to communicate
with you on this occasion. Those of you
with televisions can see me on your screens.” Ab-ar-da batted its big black
eyes at the camera and appeared to be very happy and excited. It waved its
long-fingered, thin-gray hand at the camera and smiled with its’ tiny slit of a
mouth.
“You know us as ‘Grays’. We are
beings with large black eyes and gray colored skin who live outside your solar
system. We have visited you from time to time. The planet we come from is
called Can-a-baa. It is many light years away from Earth and it would take you
more than a lifetime to travel there with the spaceships you are currently
using.
“Do not be afraid. We are not
here to hurt any of you . . .”
