Chapter Two
Hidden Paradise
Round and round the island I go, what will I see, no body knows. One day my cousins and his friend decided to take me around St. Lucia to see the islands beauty. First we drove through the market place and what a beautiful place to see on our way to the countryside.
It didn't take me long to realize the beauty of the island. We drove up this mountain. St. Lucia has a lot of mountains so people could get a better picture of the islands beauty. I kept noticing people selling things on the sides of the mountain, or at the viewpoint. A place where tourist would stop to admirer the island beauty.
On that mountaintop you will get a birds eye view of the oceans. St. Lucia Ocean is as blue as the sky, on certain days if there isn't any clouds in the sky. I could see the three different shades of blue in the sea, blue blue, sky blue, and baby blue. TV couldn't give you a better picture of it, you would have to see it yourself, wow.
There is also the beauty of the trees from the same spot, you could see the chicken hawks gliding over the treetops. The wind is moving the tops of the trees back and forth, like a mother rocks her baby to sleep. O' how I wish I were one of those chicken hawks, standing on that mountaintop. I would spread my wings and glide over the treetops, and dive straight into that cool baby blue water.
After I got a hold on my imagination, we kept on driving. It didn't take me long to notice the banana trees, I mean acres and acres of banana and coconut trees. Bananas are one of St. Lucia biggest export, and half of our diet. I didn't take long to see the beauty of the countryside.
The island has many famous sites, and one of the most famous ones is called the pitons. It is the two most beautiful mountains side by side. Like a pair of silicon breasts pointing to the sky, but one is bigger then the other. The mountain got it's name from the French, because the island was controlled by them, but then came the British. I could see what they were fighting for, hidden paradise, now St. Lucia is an independent island.
The big one is called go piton, and the little one is called pity piton, which means, big mountain and little mountain. The mountain is so much a part of the island that they name a beer after it, called piton. The mountain made its first guest appearance in the movie Superman Part Two. It was when superman was about to propose to Lois Lane. He took her to a piece of his planet cripton, and then, he flew all the way to a beautiful island called St. Lucia. Just to get her a special rose, and in the background was a beautiful shot of those two mountains side by side, pointing to the sky.
In my soul, St. Lucia is life, and you know life is for the living. We kept on driving with the wind blowing through the car, and the radio playing some good old time reggae that I haven't heard in a long time. The music makes me move my head back and forth. Moving and thinking about life in St. Lucia, hoping this never ended.
