Taken nine months after
David and Rosemary
On the lip of the basement
Dug from the wooded hillside.
They gaze speculatively down
From mounds of tan dirt
Into the hole we made
To make a house rise
Here in
The realm of heaven is so like
that:
To see the basis, weigh the vacancy
But not yet spot completion,
View destruction with hope,
Watch what others have torn down,
While plans gel even now
To build a monument to life,
An answer and a future both,
A sad past developing a sweetness
That will be pure transformation.
