“AN ALMANAC FOR THE AMNESIAC”
James 1:25 “But he who looks into the perfect law of
liberty and continues in it, and is not a FORGETFUL HEARER , but a doer of the
word, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
Webster’s dictionary defines an
almanac as an annual publication containing a calendar for the coming year of
important dates and times and occurrence of events. In other words, it is a book published to
inform people as to the right times they can do something to get the maximum
results or benefits. Farmers use these
books when planting crops with the expectation of reaping a great harvest, just because they have read
and obeyed their almanac. A good farmer
almost never will deny the accuracy or validity of their almanac because their
lives and welfare depends solely upon it.
A seasoned farmer who doesn’t follow their almanac generally would end
up reaping poor crop benefits or with a field full of weeds and crop eating
insects. A seasoned farmer would never
forget his or her almanac, because they know it is essential for their growth,
vitality, and the abundant life.
The same is also true in the
spiritual realm. Our almanac is called
the Holy Bible. It also tells us of the
time and events of the present, past, and even future occurrences, but with
pinpoint accuracy. A good
,seasoned , Christian never forgets to read, study, and obey their
almanac(Bible), unless they have amnesia or some other related disorder. So, I just believe this is the malady of many
Americans today. We just seem to have a
problem of forgetting all about God, the Creator and Sustainer of all
life.
The fact that tragedies,
terrorism, and senseless murders have become a common occurrence, almost daily,
in our lives as peanut butter and jelly, it made me want to know the big
question, why? I sought to find the mind
of God, in his almanac(Bible) on these dreadful
issues. This is what I believe, the Lord wants me to share with the readers
today. The Lord has his ways to get each
one of our undivided attention. He allows
tragedies, turmoil, and strife to force us to our bended knees to be obedient
to him. There are some things, we cannot
think our way out of, pay our way out of, or even con our way out of. Fasting and fervent prayer only solves these
things. So, while we are down on our
knees, we ought to pray and praise the only living God, Jesus, who is the
Christ. Our heavenly father wants all of
us to repent of our sins and return to him, so that he may direct our paths in
righteousness instead of wretchedness, which we display on a daily basis. Often times, we say “No Crisis, No Christ”
that simply means, that as long as things are going well with us, we
don’t call on or even need God. We often
treat God, like he was a celestial, maintenance man. “We only call on him when
we need something fixed, we should be like a telemarketer, and call him, all of
the time.” Our God,
is Lord in the good times and Lord in the bad times. Someone once said,
that God is closer to us in turmoil and tragedy, because He knows we cannot
make it without Him. His love is
magnified in tragedy to comfort us, to encourage us, to guide us, to strengthen
us, and to draw us closer to him. The
Bible says in 11 Corinthians 12:10
“When I am weak, then I am strong,” because Christ’s strength sustains you.”
In these perilous times, we
should humble ourselves and pray for the leaders of our nation, and for the
righteous leadership, of our nation. They are only human too, and maybe, too,
they have, just forgotten to call on God because of their busy schedules. We
should pray for our families, our friends, our pastors, our churches, and even
our enemies, who despitefully try to cause harm to us. We should also pray for
the salvation of those who do not call Jesus, as their Lord and Savior.
Therein lies the problem for
many, in this great nation, we call the United
States of America. I believe, we have become
so affluent and in our pursuits of affluency, we have
left out our God in this human equation. The Lord is still, the Giver of all
life and gifts.. Deuteronomy 8:18 say, “ But thou shall
remember thy God. For it is He that giveth
thee power to get wealth.” Have
we become so educated and sophisticated beyond our own intelligence to reason
and forget that this country called America,
was for the most part founded and perpetuated by the sweat, blood, and tears,
of men and women, who were believers in Christ Jesus. Lest, we remember the tragic events of the
past, we are prone to
repeat them in the future. We should not
worship and praise, other idol gods, such as money, position, sex, fame, lavish
mansions, exotic cars, and fancy lifestyles.
Matthew 6:33 say “But we
should seek ye first the kingdom of God,
and His righteousness; and all of these things should be added unto you.” Deuteronomy 7:9 says “Know therefore that the
Lord, thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth
covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments. to a thousand generations.”
In conclusion, Deuteronomy
8:19-20, says “And it shall be, if thou do at All forget the Lord thy God, and
walk after other gods and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you
this day, that you shall surely perish.
