About the Author

Ivery L. Henderson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 7, 1941. He was the second son of Mary and Louis Henderson. He attended McDonogh #27 and Jefferson Parish for his grade school years. He attended high school at L.B. Landry in the greater New Orleans area. He was co-captain of their football team. He was a member of two State Champion football teams. He was captain of the track team during his senior year and was the Student Council president.

After graduating he enlisted in the US AIR FORCE and attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was stationed in Europe, Asia, Alaska, and much of the lower 48, including Michigan, California, and Louisiana. His first love became boxing and he excelled, becoming a lightweight and a light welterweight champ. He also accumulated over 120 college credits during this period of his life.

This book is written from a black man’s perspective, based on his life experiences and his attempts to be objective in that area. He tells that although newspapers may write about daily happenings, in his feelings, and in his heart and his soul he is greatly affected by the rhythm of the happenings taking place around and to him. His interpretation of life is that it is an integral part of society that causes him to reach out and witness the spirit of rejection. Yet, he sees that God proves to be his greatest strength and weapon to overcome the physical and spiritual realm, in a world where money can corrupt the souls of man.

His poems may give you a view of truth, justice, and righteousness prevailing in a society where racism and political corruption is witness to the actions of men. Where worth is determined by money. It should show the reader how to look at life events that can make you, shape you, or break you. That the choice to love or hate lies with the individual whether the problem is caused by an individual or society in general.

If the Spirit of the Lord is leading you, you will overcome.
