About the Book

Wooden Dreadnaught is a detailed recount of the daily activities on board the YMS 183 during World War II in the Pacific.  The actual ship log has been used along with the recollections of the remaining crew. The book takes the YMS 183 from its original construction site to its final resting place. The author’s goal is to give the reader an insight into the monotony of the daily routine along with the highlights of their involvement in WWII. It is an excellent reference source for other naval historians.

About the Author

Author Davis was a crewmember of USS YMS 183 and served aboard her for 14 months. He joined the Navy V7 program and attended Naval mine warfare school. After growing up in the town of Beaufort, North Carolina, and being near the ocean; it was a natural thing for him to join the Navy. It should also be noted that his brother was serving simultaneously on board YMS 362.  A fascinating point in their lives was when they rendezvoused at Ulithi Anchorage.
