About the Book

In the year 2000 rock singer Bono teamed up with Computer whiz Billionaire Bill Gates to send help to African people living with HIV.  In recent months Oprah Winfrey spent time with orphaned children whose parents have died in HIV.

America is ever helpful to the needy, in this case people of Africa.  Why are Africans not lifting a hand to help themselves, when young women are being infected with HIV before the age of 18?

This book chronicles the life of a child determined to survive and overcome an out dated culture as she speaks clearly saying,

“I was not allowed to speak my mind.  I was in training to become the typical African woman whose feelings were not to be known and wishes were relegated to the background.  I was to become subservient in marriage.

I was busy learning to survive a world more conducive for adults than for children.  It was an outright dangerous place for young girls.  I had to learn to fight the men who practiced an age-old custom of having their way with young girls.  It was an open secret not discussed but to be endured by its victims”
