About the Book

Throughout Ms. Jenkins’ career as a teacher--when she has observed “freshmen” teachers and especially when she remembers her own experiences starting out in the profession--she has been acutely aware of just how frightening it can be to step into the classroom for the first time without the confidence and self-assurance that are requisite for success.

It is, in part, because of this that she has put together VIGNETTES FOR UNDERSTAND1NG LITERARY AND RELATED CONCEPTS.  This book is, therefore, filled with suggestions for introducing and explaining a broad variety of literary topics.  Her students and fellow teachers have always been eager to hear the next little “vignette” which she often uses so amusingly to illustrate her points.

Not only will new and seasoned teachers as well as more highly motivated students be the beneficiaries of this user-friendly guide, but now everyone can enjoy her expertise and humor in this delightful literary handbook.

About the Author

Rosemary Jenkins received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and history and a minor in the humanities from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  She has traveled extensively in Latin America, Europe, and the former Soviet Union, intensively studying the culture and literature of each of those places--all of which have contributed to the story-telling in this guide.

Ms. Jenkins, a Master Teacher and Mentor, has been teaching for over 33 years.  She recently published A QUICK-AND-EASY REFERENCE TO CORRECT GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION for which this present literary handbook will make an excellent companion piece.

She has been blessed with nearly thirty years of marriage, is a proud mother of adult children, and is the human for two dogs.
