Hewt
meets Ramosh and Roatin
Hewt’s
bubble descends, bounces, rolls, and stops at a building that is enclosed in a
dome. A door in the bubble opens,
conveyor slides out, Hewt exits, conveyor detracts,
door closes, bubble rolls to a parking area.
Hewt
enters the building. Ramosh–who
is talking to Roatin a couple hundred yards away in a
large courtyard– hears a voice in reish chip that
says, “Hewt is here to meet with you”. Roatin departs from
Ramosh. Hewt follows a light beam to Ramosh.
They exchange information silently learning about each other’s profession and
hobbies and why Ramosh wants to talk to Hewt. At Ramosh’s suggestion, they both put on special pairs of
shoes. Immediately they are high in the mountains with a guru. The guru says,
“Hello Ramosh and Hewt.”
Ramosh
and Hewt reply in chorus, “Hello Nim.”
Nim: “Back way up, before you even met
Freedom. What do you think is the
culture upon which Freedom management style was built?”
Hewt: “Roatin. It is just exactly like Roatin.”
Nim: “Why wasn’t Freedom able to complete the gold
mission before the problem changed from a non-urgent problem to an urgent one?”
Hewt: “Because golds are
not compatible with Freedom’s culture.”
Nim: “When a company attempts to change its
management methods to methods that are not compatible with its culture, what
must it do first?”
Hewt: “Change its culture.”
Nim: “How could you change Freedom’s culture?”
Hewt: “By changing Roatin.
I tried. I can’t”
Nim: “So what is the solution now?”
Hewt: “Roatin should hire an elite to
manage Freedom for himer. The elite that Roatin hires should have already successfully run a company
using golds on all critical processes.”
Nim:
“What if Roatin can’t find someone like that before
it is too late? Is it already too late?
What is your ‘plan B’?”

About the Book
Freedom’s Fire Fighters is a
business parable. The reader should discover the underlying messages–in this
fiction drama–about missions, goals, planning, teamwork, communication,
commitment, defect prevention, and culture. The author challenges each reader to
identify the character in the imaginary company that they are currently playing
in the real world, and relate the events in the story to events in their own
lives.
At the speed of thought the
author places the reader inside an imaginary company–named Freedom–in an
imaginary world ruled by an artificial intelligence brain and robots.
The artificial intelligence brain
is programmed to assure that no humans can ever be in any position of power.
This electronic dictator places no value on life. More than ninety nine percent of all people
hate it.
Freedom manufactures parts for
the government and provides high-risk entertainment events for the
citizens. Freedom is plagued with fires
that threaten its survival. A consultant claims that its fire fighters are out
of control. Some top executives accuse
Freedom’s president of sending mixed signals. An internal war erupts.

Kenneth E. Wright is a management
consultant for statistical methods including ‘six sigma’,
‘statistical process control’, and ‘design of experiments’. Former Industrial Engineering Manager for
Ford Motor, Adjunct Professor for San Jose State University College of
