The Art of Caring

This book is to honor every nurse who is a disciple of Christ.  For every nurse who believes Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World  (John 3:16) and hears Him say, “Come, follow me.”  Do not stop your good deeds.  You are noticed and do make a difference.  The Holy Spirit wants to refresh you.  Allow yourself to drink in these words of inspiration.  My prayer for you is unity in the profession and that you leave a lasting legacy ...that, “just as we are one make them one.” (John 17)   I give thanks to God for making this book possible and for helping me to discover that he was there all the time.  I thank my family and son who support me and help me.

Read these words and hear the voice beyond the words.  Know that every thing you do is noticed by Him who is above.  He sees every good and unfortunately, every bad thing we do.  If you seek to be noticed by your co-workers, your boss, your family, you will be sadly frustrated.  You will be rewarded for what you do, but it may not be here in this time or place.  “As you nurse even unto the least of these (God’s) people you nurse unto Me”.

In a world where ministering to the sick is a lost and dying art, what does it mean to care and how is caring an art?  To care is also to minister.  If you are in the Lord Jesus, then you are His minister.  A minister is a perfected vessel in the fires of God.  This is the art:  being concerned about others above being concerned about yourself.  This is the fire: placing other’s needs before your own.  How do you minister under fire?  How can we be concerned about other people’s needs when we live in an age of self gratification and egoism? 

Art is not just drawing, dancing, singing, coloring or printing on paper.  I create pictures on the tablet of hearts.  Art is not just the notes on a stanza, there has to be an instrument to play the music.  Art is not just words on a page without a voice and melody to ignite a flame deep down inside the listener. 

I am an artist.  I am a nurse.  I color and paint on the page of your life. I only get a few hours with you, then I am gone.  The chapter and verse of your life is held in the palm of the Creator’s hand.  In this moment of time, I have the privilege of this place.  The place where two lines cross; your life line and mine.  I color and paint on your page.  I play the music in your soul.  I sing the melody of life to your inmost being–the wellspring of your soul.  What is this art of caring that I go about practicing every day?   This art is not for everyone.  Although, many people try.  They just do not fit.  They only work a job and accrue a paycheck.  I practice my art everyday so that when you and I sing together, it will be a most perfect harmony in the innermost recesses of your being.
