Allow me to introduce myself, my
name is Montresor, and I belong to that most peculiar
species known as slayers. But I dislike the word ‘slayer’-as I find the term
prosaic. Besides, that which is already dead cannot be slain-only destroyed;
therefore, I destroy them-therefore, I am a destroyer.
But either way, it’s all the
same, as is the evil is real, the malevolence lives-and I consume myself
pursuing it. This is my special quest, the pursuit of the inhuman-in all their
ghastly aspects.
But one must be ever vigilant-and
take pains to insure one does not become as inhuman as that which he
pursues-for, as Nietzsche said: ‘Whoever fights monsters should see to it that
in the process he does not become a monster. And when one looks long into an
abyss, the abyss also looks into you.’

de force of darkness.

Shadow of the Succubus / The Eternal Thirst: Two Novels of Horror both are tales of
dark seduction, which at times deal with the dual nature of man, who can be so
at odds with his own darkness and yet so easily led into the dark.
Both are in the Gothic vein, but
are set in a modern atmosphere.
