Jennifer Callson
grew up in West Texas enjoying nature with its wide
sweeps of country. Her great love for
reading planted an early desire to someday be a writer.
Jennifer listened with untiring
attention to Grandma Callson’s tales of youth,
especially when she talked about the long wagon move from Missouri
to almost the border of Mexico
in the 1860’s. The one part of this
story Jennifer liked to hear over and over was of Tassie,
who came along and was about the same age as Grandma (Stanton) Callson.
The story, after several
generations became almost a family myth until it reached Jennifer who gave it
new life and reality.
Tassie
Johnson, a pretty little mulatto, was forced to live with the Stanton
family at the tender age of six. This
strange arrangement brought strong repercussions that would later, much later,
furnish infinite material for Jennifer’s first try at writing family history
that sent her at the age of seventeen on her way as a budding author. Prying into family records revealed the
existence of a Trust Fund for Tassie Johnson who had
long ago vanished from the Stanton
household.
Jennifer grew with her talent
that would one day bridge this long past with the present from unexpected
events to shape unusual surprises.
To keep the surprises in place, I
leave you to read TASSIE’S JOURNEY.
