Studying for Success

The intent of this booklet is multifaceted, but the major effort concentrated on assisting the student learner in realizing academic success.  To accomplish this, the booklet was written in a format that could be utilized by the student learner, parents, counselors, teachers or any other interested persons.  It was developed to provide a concise method of delivering information and examples to facilitate incorporating success strategies into an action plan for the student learner that will provide an efficient and effective means for acquiring personal and educational success.

The two critical areas explored in this text are separated into the broad topics of:

Knowledge acquisition – the gathering of knowledge about the subject area(s), including note taking, reading for understanding, questioning techniques, and analyzing techniques, and;

Test taking – successfully demonstrating the level of understanding and knowledge gained.  Demonstrating knowledge often occurs through oral assessments such as classroom discussions or by a written assessment such as a test or examination.  The section on written assessments will examine effective techniques for true/false, multiple choice, matching, completion, short answer, and essay examinations with explanations and supportive examples.
