Imagine being one of the twelve
Apostles! Imagine walking with Jesus day
after day for three years. Many of us
have thought exactly of that and what it would be like. Granted, there were many people constantly
around Him, constantly asking questions, constantly wanting healing for
themselves or for others. However, there
were also times when Jesus was alone with His twelve friends. They would walk along and He would answer their
individual questions. After supper, some
of them would take walks, and maybe Jesus would be alone for a while. Being one of the Twelve, you would walk over
and sit beside Him. Imagine sitting
beside the Son of God, Our Redeemer.
There would be just the two of you and this would be your chance to ask
Him that important question that had been on your mind for days. Gently, He would look at you and with
tremendous love and total understanding, He would
answer you in a way that would touch your heart to its very core. Then, the others would return and the many
other questions on your mind would have to wait.
Later, as the night grew long,
everyone would be eager for some much-needed sleep. You would rest your head on a rolled up
blanket but sleep would not come. You
could hear the others sleeping comfortably, but the Master was still
awake. Quite often, He did not require
much sleep. Why? He was human, of course, but so often He
would go off to pray by Himself, or would simply desire to be alone. Now, you quietly go to sit beside Him. He asks if you are tired. You want this time alone with Him, so you say
no, although He knows differently.
Suddenly, you find yourself wide awake.
Your mind is racing with question after question. How did He raise Lazarus from the dead? How did He change the water into wine at Cana?
How did He cure the woman from her hemorrhages? Why did He talk with the woman from Samaria?
Jesus looks at you. He looks at you in such a poignant way that
your heart is deeply and suddenly touched.
He looks at you with love and tenderness that you have never experienced
before. In fact, you know in your heart
that He is like no one else you have ever met before or will ever meet
again. He is so gentle and kind to
everyone. There is no discrimination
with Jesus. He treats everyone the
same. His touch is like the whisper of
the wind and the soft feel of a rose petal at the same time. The sparkle in His eyes when He laughs is a
reflection of the bright morning sun.
People had never before heard such inspiring teachings as He gave to
them. His words speak from deep within
Himself of the fullness and intensity of life.
His voice reflects the richness of the earth and its vast beauty. The kindness in His voice and spirit epitomizes
love itself. How blessed are they who
have been called by Him to be His followers.
Now, He gently puts His hand on
your shoulder. He tells you that
tomorrow is another new day. It will be
Passover. In three days, He will answer
your questions. He tells you to look for
Him in the morning light of the third day and He will softly whisper your
name. Then, you will know the answers
which you have been seeking. Then, you
will know and understand all He taught.
Then, you will know the meaning of perfect Love
