Megan Marie and the Faery Ring

Taking a right turn, Campanula led Megan into a cavernous opening in the tunnel.  Stalactites in a myriad sizes were suspended from the ceiling and varying musical tones resembling wind chimes were created by dripping water that could faintly be heard as it made its way down the long, tapering mineral formations before falling into a dark, silvery pool in the center of the cavern.   The girls continued on their way, jumping over yawning chasms, stepping over small streams until they wound their way down into a valley that could be described as nothing less than a golden paradise.  The meadows were bursting with vibrant colors from the profusion of exotic flowers that spread as far as the eye could see.  The trees were laden with sweet, succulent fruits of every kind known to man.  Honeysuckle and wisteria vines rambled over the tops of archways that were made of stone.  The air was sweet and warm from the sunlight filtering through the trees, sparkling like glittering diamonds over the sweeping vistas. 

Megan was so overcome by the beauty of it all that she collapsed onto the first mushroom that she came to and just sat there staring about in awe. 

Campanula joined her, sitting on a smaller mushroom beside her, and then in a twinkling, they were joined by another faery by the name of Periwinkle who wore a gown of teal blue and green, with a long train, creating the illusion of a peacock.  Beside her, Elledina, a bold, red haired faery adorned in feathers, appeared as a pheasant in flight, flittering to the fourth mushroom.  Five, six, seven, more faeries arrived, each more beautiful than the one before, until there were a total of twelve lovely creatures perched on mushrooms sitting in a circle.

Three young pixies stood in the shadows of stones scattered throughout the hills, lifting their flutes and feapers in readiness, waiting until Queen Zibaleeth arrived riding a white unicorn.  She swooped into the valley, reining her magical steed to a standstill beside the faery ring.  Her complexion equaled the opulence of mother of pearl, and her long, glossy, black hair was adorned with pearls made from dewdrops.  The diaphanous dress that she wore was covered with a cloak of mist, and her fingers were bedecked with multi-colored jewels.  She alighted from her snowy white unicorn and the faeries parted, allowing her to pass through to the center of the circle.  She smiled and nodded her head to each one in turn and then lifted her hand, signaling the pixies with a wand studded with stardust.

The music began, softly at first, drifting across the valley, echoing through the hills.  Then six more pixies joined in, coming down from the moors so that the very air around them vibrated with the tones that emanated from their musical instruments.

The faeries began to sway with the rhythm, moving the upper half of their bodies back and forth in a slow sensuous movement, reaching out to one another, holding hands, eyes closed, a smile upon their lips.  Just when the music was about to draw them into a trance, Queen Zibaleeth began stroking the strings of a golden harp that had materialized out of thin air and raised her voice in song.  The fairies stood before their mushrooms, rising up on their toes, as they began to dance, becoming one with the song.
