Philip: What about the Hampsons? That means Charades, of course.
Claude: Oh, yes. They’re an absolute fetish with Vera. Lester, of
course, is hopeless at them.
Ann: Well, you like Charades, Claude. You’re marvelous at them.
Claude: So are you, Annie. And my being marvelous at them doesn’t endear me to Lester Hampson. Every time I do a particularly good one he glares at me as though I were the most rampant exhibitionist.
Philip: Which of course you’re not.
Claude: Be still. No, Lester makes me too uncomfortable during
Charades. He hates them so. I can always just hear him
snorting to himself, “Show-off intellectuals!”
Philip: What’s so intellectual about Charades? Or you, for that matter.
Ann: It’s because Claude watches Public Television.
Claude: Oh, Lester is really such a clot!
Philip: “Charity, Miss Prism.”
Claude: Well, it’s true! If only he’d try when it comes his turn, instead of just standing there looking blankly at us all like something out of Madame Tussaud’s.
Ann: I always feel so sorry for him when he gets up. He’s like a helpless fawn. Or is it doe? Anyway, it is pitiful. I always have to look away.

About the Author
Edmund Lyndeck gave up a career as a college English professor for a life in the theatre, a profession in which he has been active for over forty years as actor, director and now playwright. Roles he created in their original Broadway productions were Rev. Witherspoon in 1776, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, Cinderella’s Father in Into The Woods and Eric in A Doll’s Life. His films include Big Daddy and Road Trip, and he has been seen in such televisions shows as The Doctors, The Bill Cosby Show, Ed, and Law And Order.
Five years ago he began writing plays—plays about life in the theatre.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lyndeck’s acting career continues.
