About the Book

What if you had no memory of what happened to you in a 24 hour period. For Carole Belleser, a 17 years old high school student, it is as though 11/16/1971 never existed for her. She has no knowledge of anything that happened between Thursday night and Saturday morning. Something must have happened because three months later, she discovers to her amazement that she is pregnant. The problem is, she has never had sex. She goes to the police and they don’t believe her because in 1971, the police have never heard of “date rape drugs”. This begins Carole’s pregnancy from hell where her father feels she is concealing the name of the father and her school mates laugh at her for her “immaculate conception”.

Five years later, Carole, a single mom, has achieved some success working at The Fair Store. Here she meets Charley Bear, a full blooded Navaho Indian, who is her boss’s boss. Carole, scared to death of him, soon learns he is a teddy bear with her. Her daughter, Rebecca, is soon calling him “Uncle Charley”. In a worldwind courtship, they are married in a Jewish Navaho wedding. They have both agreed though to go back to Clovis, New Mexico and find out the truth about who drugged and raped Carole. Who is Rebecca’s father? In this pursuit, they run into a rich cast of characters and suspects. They, with the help of the Clovis Police Department, discover the truth, and he goes to jail.

This is a heartwarming story of a girl whose life is change forever by an act of violence. Coupled with the tragedy that her own parents aren’t with her when she needs them, nor one her friends. She makes a new life, and through the healing power of love finds happiness. The two of them together achieve vindication and revenge. Most of all though, this is a book will make you feel good after you’ve read it.
