About the Book

This story is filled with excitement and Indian lore, with just enough romance to keep it interesting.

Eric Wayne hires Morgan Holt to find his wife Chloe, who was captured by the Commanche Indians three years earlier.  Holt and his partner, Wes Fagan, go in search of Chloe.

They fight a group of Comancheros, and a few days later Fagan is killed by Commanche Indians, who take Holt to their village.  Holt is re-united with He-Bear, Chief of the tribe, and Holt’s ex-father-in-law. Holt left the tribe when his wife died.

Holt is welcomed by He-Bear, but Dichali, He-Bear’s son, who had never liked Holt, is not glad to see him.  Although Chloe Wayne is He-Bears wife, Dichali plans to have her when He-Bear dies.

Holt finally reveals who he is to Chloe Wayne, and they form a plan to slip away.  Meanwhile, tension between Dichali and Holt grows.  When Comancheros attack the Indian encampment, He-Bear is killed.  During the fight, Holt and Chloe Wayne escape.

Meanwhile, Eric Wayne revealed to his crooked lawyer, Dave Borders, that he hired Holt to find Chloe because she had inherited a vast sum of money. Once Holt returns with Chloe Wayne, they plan to steal the money.

After Dichali buried his father, he starts out after Holt and Chloe Wayne.

As Morg and Chloe travel towards Tascosa, they fall in love.  Morg has another shoot-out with the Comancheros, who are also after Chloe Wayne.  Dichali captures Chloe and plans to take her back to the village and marry her.  In a daring night raid, Morg rescues Chloe, and thinks that he killed Dichali.  Morg is wounded, and while he and Chloe hide out for his wound to heal, they fall deeper in love.

They are rescued by some freighters and soon reach Tascosa.  Morg is suspicious of Borders and Eric Wayne.  Finally, Borders tells him that Chloe has inherited a fortune, and Eric Wayne wants control of it.

When a rancher and his family were attacked by Comanches, two women were taken prisoners.  The army calls on Morgan Holt to scout for them.  He rescues the women, but is recognized by the Indians.  While Morg is on this mission, Dave Borders kills Eric Wayne, who had already convinced Chloe that Holt is dead.  She leaves with a wagon train, heading for Dallas to collect her inheritance.  Holt finally catches the train, and Chloe is surprised to see him.  Their happiness is short lived.  The wagon train is surrounded by Dichali’s braves.  He challenges Holt to a fight, and in the end Dichali is killed by Morgan Holt.
