FADE IN
ST. PETER’S CATHEDRAL
Rome, Italy, 1857. The day is clear. The BELLS are TOLLING for the
morning services.
INT. THE CONGREGATION
ALL are standing. The services are just about over. The THUNDEROUS
ORGAN MUSIC accompanies the rich voices of the choir. The grandeur of
the ‘HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH’ makes one feel the
heavens have opened.
THE HAWTHORNE FAMILY
MR. NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE is flanked by his wife, SOPHIA and
son JULIAN, 12. ROSE, 6, stands next to her mother and sister UNA, 14.
Rose glances up at her mother while tugging at her mother’s puffy velvet
sleeve.
ROSE
(whispers)
What are they saying?
MRS. HAWTHORNE
(whispers in reply)
They are praising the Lord.
When Rose listens attentively she always tilts her head.
EXT. ST. PETER’S CATHEDRAL
The PEOPLE are coming out. Some walk to their awaiting carriage. Others
just walk away.
The Hawthorne family reach their hired barouche. Julian energetically
mounts the box informing, GAETANO, the coachman that he wants to ride
with him.
Gaetano helps the girls and Mrs. Hawthorne. Mr. Hawthorne declines
assistance.
Mr. Hawthorne stands elegantly at ease next to the coach, his walking stick
in hand, he momentarily gazes over his shoulder. His piercing eyes reveal
the deep thinking man that he is.
MR. HAWTHORNE
—So potent and profound is the hold this “city of
the soul” has upon the mind—I am enriched to be
bringing such fond memories back to England with
me.
INT. COACH—MOVING
MRS. HAWTHORNE
The heart of Rome is St. Peter’s and its pulse is the
Pope. I too will cherish the moments of this
vacation.
ROSE
Papa, will I ever come back to Rome?
MR. HAWTHORNE
Oh but you must! Your eyes are too young to have
seen the grandeur of Rome and the richness all of
Italy has to offer.

About the Book
Rose Hawthorne was the yougest of three children of the famous American novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne. She had a fascinating childhood followed by the most desirable social life among the elite of the late 1800s.
Due to an unaccepatable circumstance, Rose makes a compassionate commitment. And because of this commitment, her lifer will never again be the same. But her extraordinary mission driven by her unshakable faith and determination will bring an unprecedented result.
About the Author
After raising three sons and being the pass proprietress of an independent 5¢ and 10¢ store for 11 years, Lucille Pimenta completed a writing course and then pursued different aspects of writing. She received an Award of Recognition and also an Editor’s Choice Award from Poetry publications. One of her articles, ‘Coping with the loss of a loved one’ was featured in The Newport Daily News of Newport, Rhode Island.
Her most valued achievement in writing is her screenplay ‘Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Daughter’ which took her over 3 years to research and write. The inspirational life of Rose Hawthorne so impressed Ms. Pimenta that she felt compelled to bring this remarkable story to the public’s attention.
