The Power of Forgiveness

It is not easy to forgive when you have been very deeply bruised with wounds that are life changing and personality altering; it is not as easy to let go of hurts that adversely affect how you live and where you live.  For example, it may not be easy to forgive a trusted family member who molested you as a child, or parents that failed to provide you with a nurturing family environment.  It is understandable if you have difficulty forgiving the spouse that walked away and left you to raise children by yourself.  It may be very hard to let go when your sister, brother, or another loved one has been severely injured.  It is understandable if you have difficulty forgiving someone who murdered your spouse, child, mother or father; and the list goes on.  While it may not be easy, it is not impossible. Therefore, you must forgive such hurts before you are overcome with anger, bitterness, and resentment has.

The key to inner healing is the power to forgive.  The power to forgive requires divine help to achieve.   However, if we do not have God in us, we are already fighting a loosing battle.  Inner pain is of an emotional nature that affects our spiritual self; therefore, the healing for inner hurt is of a spiritual significance.  No human strength is powerful enough to win a spiritual battle; it is a job for God.

…A good thing about forgiving is that as you forgive you will be forgiven.

Matthews 6:12 reads on this order:

“Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”

Our Heavenly Father chooses to forgive us as we forgive those who trespass against us. I have often heard it said that harboring anger, bitterness, and resentment have a tendency to accelerate the aging process, and can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and other related diseases; all of which, can lead to a premature death.   If, peradventure, this is medically and scientifically true, it behooves all of us to beware of the sin of unforgiveness.  We were not created to carry the load unforgiveness brings.  We were created to glorify God in our mortal bodies and in our spirits

…As for myself, I will forever believe that Satan had a plan to cut me off, through my parents, before I was conceived.  Just as God knew me before I was born, Satan knew me too, and his intentions were to destroy me before I came forth to carry out my divine assignment.  I became very aware of this later in my spiritual walk.  My mother had often shared with me the various circumstances surrounding my birth.  Because of the hard work in the fields coupled with the physical and mental abuse, along with not having enough food for proper nutrients, she had several miscarriages and feeble babies. … I was undernourished and born a preemie. According to the record, I too was not strong enough to survive.  My mother said she prayed over me day and night; God spared my life; I lived, but the next baby died.
