About the Book

The time is the “Sixties” . . . JFK landing on the moon, flower children, love-beads, the Manson murder trial and convictions, the Beatles and getting high!  All the talk is very “deep” and feelings hang out everywhere; everyone is searching for a reason just to be.  There’s no tomorrow and if there is, it’s “beautiful man!”  “It’s cool, groovy, and outta sight!”

When you’re young and away from home, you take on a new family.  Those who travel, work and perform with you, they become more important to you than you ever thought anyone could be.  You share more with them than you ever would with your own kin.  And love grows there like it never would at home.

From musical summer stock to touring the United States and Australia, these poems and songs chronicle the writer’s emotional challenges, changes and growth throughout the sixties and early seventies, a time of challenges and changes for every one of us who experienced them when we were young and full of love and hope.

About the Author

Lauri Allen came to California and Pennsylvania in 1949 where she grew up in Santa Monica and graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Music and English.  She pursued her love of singing wherever she could find work in Hollywood and Las Vegas.  Tired of traveling, she wrote songs and musicals, copied music and raised her son, Ryan, as a single mom and real estate agent.  Currently, she enjoys her mini horses, goats, dogs and cats and a return to music on her little ranch in Shadow Hills.
