A week later, on a Friday afternoon, Al beeped her. She was in between classes and returned his call.
“
“Hey,
“Sweetheart, listen to me. I need you to go and check us into that hotel we usually go to. Use a credit card. Reserve the room until you leave to come home. Go there and use the towels and mess up the bed so it will look like we’re staying there. Got that?”
“But why,
“Just do this for me. Please, baby. Go as soon as you can. Call me on my cell phone and let me know when you’ve reserved the room. I’ll talk to you later. I love you.” He hung up.
Darlene stood there holding the phone. She had one more class that day. When she found out it was canceled, she left campus and checked them into the hotel. The receptionist at the front desk was familiar with her and Al since they have been there quite often. Darlene went to the room and called Al back. “Hello?” he answered not expecting her to call back so soon.
“I’ve reserved the room. Anything else?”
“Stay in the room tonight. I’ll be there sometime tonight or early
tomorrow morning. Make sure you order
something to eat. And when they bring
it, have the shower running so they’ll think I’m already there.” Darlene was quiet on the other end of the
phone. “
“Yes,
“I’ll talk to you later. I love you. I gotta go. Bye, baby.” He hung up again.
Darlene knew what she was about
to do was serious. She had a choice to
make. She could choose not to do what he
asked or choose to do it with no questions asked. Her mind was made up. She loved him and she would do it. She went back to her dorm room and packed a
few clothes to spend the weekend at the hotel.
She tried to do a little studying, but she was too worried about
Al. She had ordered room service and did
as he had instructed. She even left her
suitcase in plain sight for anyone to see.

About the Book
Everyday in life people make choices. Some choices are good and some are bad. Some choices are easy to live with and some are hard to live with. And some of those choices can have life-altering consequences. The book Choices in Life is about how a woman has to live with the choices she makes.
The main character in this book is a college graduate and she has her whole life ahead of her. A drug dealer sweeps her off her feet. She willingly marries him because she doesn’t want to live with her aunt and cousins in the low-income, drug infested neighborhood they live in. She doesn’t like the drug dealing he does and tries to overlook it until he stops dealing drugs. But as time goes by, nothing changes. She realizes that the money and cars and expensive gifts don’t make the drug dealing acceptable.
During their marriage she puts up with his jealous behavior, his accusations, and she has been his automatic alibi. But when her husband betrays her, she wants out of the marriage. He is obsessed with her and threatens the live of someone she loves if she leaves him.
