As she drew near, she hesitated. She hadn’t seen anyone waiting for her as
she approached the cottonwoods. Maybe
this wasn’t such a good idea, even if it was Daeyo she was meeting; it was too
secluded a spot.
“Daeyo, are you here?’ she called out. No one answered. Maybe I just got here before he has, she hoped.
“Daeyo,” she called again. It was really quiet; even the crickets had stopped their
chirping. KayCee started to walk around
a huge tree trunk; she felt apprehensive as she thought, ‘this was a stupid
idea, KayCee.’ She stepped over a
broken branch and stopped short. Her
attention was diverted to some movement in the tree. Two big luminous yellow eyes looked down at her and asked
“whoo-whoo.’
“Oh,” she choked out as a figure suddenly stepped out
of the shadows. “You’re not Daeyo,
you’re Bud!” she cried out. As he moved
toward her she felt a whoosh of air.
She flung up her right arm to protect her face as something very hard
hit a glancing blow to her head. Then
the moonlight went out.

About the Book

ancestor’s footsteps on a wagon train ride over the Bozeman Trail. Surprisingly, she finds more than adventure. The Train’s Boss and Trail Doctor, a Crow Indian, vie for
KayCee’s attention despite the fact she has no desire for romance. And from the beginning, she’s stalked,
harassed and eventually abducted by an unknown assailant.
Rich in history and humor, KayCee’s Song is
the haunting love stories of two women whose passions strengthen their
understanding of the world in which they have chosen to live.
About the Author
Diane K. Hauf is an inadvertent adventurer. Whether riding a saddled Brahma bull, or
navigating Italy’s narrow streets, Diane manages to find humor and excitement
in every day predicaments.
Born in the shadow of the Big Horn Mountains, Diane
has loved the land, its people and its history.
She currently lives and works in Southern California.
Most of her spare time is filled with her loves – family, writing, music, and
traveling. Her second book, The Boar
Hunter, was inspired by the beauty and allure of Tuscany.
