About the Book

Matilda, a medical office nurse, pursues her dream of becoming a private detective. She becomes the apprentice of a paranoid hermit and helps him investigate two difficult cases. With some advice from Doc, her former employer, and Zelda, her good friend and protégée, she solves the crimes and prevents some potential disasters.

The action takes place in the mountains of Western Maine, plus one episode in Trenton, NJ. The hermit overcome his paranoia and develops a partnership with Matilda.


About the Author

Dewey Richards grew up on a large dairy farm in rural Farmington, Maine. He had experience as a woodsman, a soldier in the 82nd Airborne, a truck driver, and a pharmaceutical representative before working his way through the University of Maine and Tufts Medical School, selling life insurance and working nights at the Boston City Hospital biochemistry lab. After internship at Maine Medical Center, he established a large rural general practice and became a Board Certified Family Physician, a Maine State Medical Examiner, and an educator. After two years as a Research Associate at Dartmouth Medical School, he spent five years developing and directing the Family Practice Residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. For two years, he was Associate Professor heading the Division of Family Medicine at Tufts, before accepting the position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. Dr. Richards finished his medical career by establishing several MedNow urgent care clinics in Maine and Massachusetts. Now retired, he lives in Maine and Florida, enjoying his large family, golf, duplicate bridge, boating, managing his large wood lot in Maine, and writing novels.
