How would you feel if after being invited into your house I
told you, that someone made me come, I did not want to? You might show me to the door, right.
Would it mean more if you knew I came here by my
choice? What if you knew I was thrilled
to be there, and was showing it by helping you with your work?
Obviously you would feel better about a visitor if you knew
that they were happy to be there.
What if the person wanted to be there, but seemed bent on
displeasing you with rude and sinful behavior?
You would throw them out, right?
You might be patient enough to extend a warning or two first, but if
they do not respond, they are gone.
The same is true of God.
God gives you a choice of having a relationship with him or not. He wants you to love Him and worship
Him. But it is your choice. If you choose not to, you will suffer the
consequence of your actions. On the
other hand if you choose to accept His invitation, and show your love and
appreciation by your life of worship and obedience, God will be pleased. This is no more than your duty and does not
mean you now deserve some treat from God, it is your duty to love the Lord with
all your heart. However, the Lord is loving
and desires to bless those that bless Him, and He likely will.
God is pleased to have any who will come. But it will be on his terms. If you pretend to accept the invitation, but
hold onto old attitudes and sin God will not be pleased. Many who hope to join the feast will be
shown the door because they are not properly dressed for the banquet. Keep your “yes” strong. And remember God can set the Boundaries of
his relationships, just like you can.
He has the power to draw you to himself. If you are willing. God is bigger than the hang-ups and problems
in your life. Obey. Every breakthrough is preceded by an act of
obedience. God will provide the victory
and with the victory comes joy if you do not block the victory by clinging on
to sin.
Just say YES!
Everyday and you will see God do great things in your life. Choose to be changed, through His
grace. Or be casual and become a
casualty. Desire His grace. Ask Him to change you. Pursue His discipline. Nothing is more important than His influence
in your life.
As the writer of Hebrews says: Hebrews 12:2-12, " Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of
God. For consider him that endured such
contradiction (hostility) of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and
faint in your minds. Ye have not yet
resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto
children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when
thou art rebuked of him: For whom the
Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with
you, as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof
all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh
which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in
subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own
pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his
holiness. Now no chastening for the
present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth
the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised
thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands
which hang down, and the feeble knees;"
" Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our
faith...” Our yes is by the grace of God, or by his influence. Only by his grace can we keep our yes strong
to the finish. Jesus is the finisher of
our faith. He is the object of our
faith. He is the goal and reward of our
faith. He is the doer of our faith.
Give Him your yes; He will give you Himself. What could be better than fellowship with the creator God? Nothing in your life compares to the glory
you can behold in fellowship with Him.
My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou
art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord
loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. My son, despise not thou the chastening of
the Lord... Take your eyes off
of yourself and focus on loving God. If
you are truly interested in pleasing God, discipline will be easier to accept
and that will enhance its effectiveness, producing the result God desires.
