Preface
This memoir is about a Black
male, who grew up on the Northend,
a neighborhood located Northeast of Downtown Detroit, Michigan. When he got
older, he moved to the city of Highland Park
located in the middle of Detroit
just minutes from his old neighborhood with his grandparents. Idolizing his
father, enough to become a professional basketball player and a pimp leads this
young man through an identity crisis.
After graduating from high
school, he struggles to make it to the next level of basketball...never giving
up. While attending three different colleges, he encounters the prejudices of
being a Black in a predominantly white college. After he completed college and
received his Associate Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Northwood
Institute Business
College and a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand
Valley State University
a few years later, he falls into the trends of society to sell and use drugs,
causing him to overdose on the drug crack
cocaine. When near death, he made a vow to God never to use or sell the drug
cocaine again.
While trying to rehabilitate his
life, he promotes strippers and prostitution until he decides to retire from
that type of life-style to search for the reason and purpose of his life. He
discovers that his purpose in life is to study the word of God and to tell
someone about the goodness of God’s grace.
Presently, today there is not one day that goes by that he does not
think about the Lord Jesus Christ because he is a witness to life on the
streets and a time to come. Every day is a battle to overcome the deceitful
tricks of Satan, causing daily trials and tribulations. He learned that he
would always be victorious against Satan as long as he kept the faith in Jesus
Christ, read the word of God as often as possible, and kept the full armor of
God on at all times. The full armor of God is the clothing that one would wear
for battle. The helmet is for salvation, to be saved from sin; the breastplate
is for righteousness; the sword is the spirit of God’s word, which will devour
any and everything; and the shield is for the faith to defend against any evil.
Wearing this armor will fill our body with the truth and prepare our feet for
the gospel of peace. Read Ephesians 6: 11–17 to understand why the full armor
of God is needed. We must understand that we do not battle against flesh and
blood, but against principalities (jurisdiction of a prince), powers (sorcery’s
of the false prophet), rulers of darkness of this world (Satan and the false
prophets), and spiritual wickedness in high places (witchcraft).
