About the Author
At sea from the age of 16 in old buckets, tugboats, fishing boats and a dozen merchant ships he served from Ordinary Seaman in the U.S. Merchant Marine to Master Mariner and First Class Pilot in the San Francisco bar, bay and rivers to Sacramento and Stockton, California. From an Ensign USNR (Merchant Marine Reserve) he rose to Captain USN serving
in seven ships; commanding a small cargo ship, a destroyer and the multiple purpose U.S.S. Sacramento AOE l. Awarded three Bronze Stars with combat citations and twenty one other awards for action, service and involvements at sea he writes from experience tempered with graduate school knowledge. A high school drop-out raised in the "school of the ship by a bunch of old salts" he obtained a Masters degree in public administration at age 60 after attending eleven colleges. Master Mariner, Navy Captain, Harbor and River Pilot, Maritime Academy teacher he finalized over fifty years of experience as The Assistant, Marine Superintendent with American President Lines.
